What employers can see, and cleaning up before you apply.
Before Priya interviews anyone, she does what a large share of hiring managers openly admit to doing: she types the candidate's name into a search engine. Not to snoop — to check that the person on the CV and the person on the internet are the same person.
Which raises the useful question: what happens when someone searches you?
What an employer is actually looking for
Not perfection, and not your holiday photos. Mostly three things:
Discretion — do you complain publicly about your employer, colleagues or clients? Whoever you post about today, a hiring manager assumes their company is next.
Judgment — furious arguments with strangers, or anything you would not want read aloud in the interview room.
Consistency — a CV that says one thing while your public profile says another is worse than either fact alone.
