Terms of service

Template — have this reviewed before launch

This document is a sensible starting point written for a small online course business, not legal advice. Before you take real money, have a lawyer in your country check it — especially the sections on data, refunds and governing law.

These terms are the agreement between you and DeskFluent for the use of DeskFluent. By creating an account or using the site, you accept them.

1. The short version

  • Use the courses to learn. Don’t copy them and sell them.
  • One account per person. Don’t share your login.
  • Pro renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time, in two clicks.
  • We are teaching skills, not guaranteeing you a job.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • Give us accurate information — your name appears on your certificates.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for everything done under your account.
  • Accounts are personal. Sharing your login so several people can use one subscription is a breach of these terms.

3. Free and paid plans

Free

The first module of every course is free indefinitely, with no card required. Free pages display advertising. We may change what is included in the free plan, but we will not remove access to content you have already completed.

Pro

  • Pro costs $9.99 per month or $59 per year, in US dollars, plus any applicable tax.
  • It renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
  • You can cancel any time from your account page. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not pro-rate part-months.
  • If a payment fails we will retry it. If it keeps failing, Pro access ends and your account returns to the free plan — your progress is never deleted.
  • We may change prices with at least 30 days’ notice by email. Existing subscribers keep their current price until their next renewal after that notice.

Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing you also agree to Stripe’s terms.

4. Refunds

See our refund policy. In short: if you are not happy within 14 days of your first payment, email us and we will refund it.

5. The referral programme

  • Every 5 people who create an account through your referral link and confirm their email address earns you 1 free month of Pro.
  • Referrals must be genuine new people. Creating accounts yourself, using disposable email addresses, or paying people to sign up will void your rewards and may close your account.
  • Free months have no cash value and cannot be transferred or refunded.
  • We may change or end the referral programme at any time. Rewards already granted are honoured.

6. Content and intellectual property

  • All course text, quizzes, workbooks and designs belong to DeskFluent.
  • You may use them to learn, print them for personal use, and use what you learn in your job or business freely — the skills are yours.
  • You may not republish, resell, redistribute or use the material to build a competing course, or scrape the site in bulk.
  • Downloadable workbooks are for your personal use only.

7. Certificates

  • Certificates are issued to Pro subscribers who complete every lesson in a course.
  • Each has a unique number and a public verification page, so anyone can confirm it is genuine.
  • A certificate is a record that you finished our course. It is not an accredited qualification, a degree, or a professional licence, and we do not claim it is recognised by any particular employer or institution.
  • We may revoke a certificate obtained by fraud or by breaching these terms. Revoked certificates show as invalid on the verification page.

8. Acceptable use

Don’t:

  • Try to break into, overload or disrupt the service
  • Scrape or bulk-download the courses
  • Share your account credentials
  • Impersonate anyone, or use the site for anything unlawful
  • Attempt to bypass payment or access Pro content you have not paid for

We may suspend or close accounts that breach this section. Where the breach is minor and unintentional, we will warn you first.

9. Availability

We work to keep the site running, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change, suspend or discontinue features. If we permanently shut the service down while you have an active paid subscription, we will refund the unused portion.

10. No guarantees about outcomes

We teach practical skills as clearly as we can. We do not guarantee any particular result — including getting a job, passing an exam, or a specific salary. Course content is general educational information and is not professional financial, legal, tax or career advice for your situation. For decisions that matter, consult a qualified professional.

11. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost profits or lost opportunities.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, including for death, personal injury or fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep all rights given to you by the consumer law of your country.

12. Ending your account

  • You can close your account at any time by emailing us.
  • We may close an account that seriously breaches these terms, with notice where reasonable.
  • If we close your account without cause while you have paid time remaining, we refund the unused portion.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights, we will email you at least 30 days beforehand. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Australia, and disputes will be heard in its courts. If you are a consumer elsewhere, this does not remove any protection you have under your own country’s law.

15. Contact

Email support@deskfluent.com with any question about these terms. We read everything.
