Controlled volume is technique; emotion is dynamics. How to practise both.
Two singers perform the same song. Both hit every note. One is background noise; the other gives you goosebumps. The difference is rarely the notes — it is what each singer does with volume. Welcome to dynamics: the cheapest special effect in music, and the one beginners use least.
Promoting your training wheels
Since lesson one, this course has repeated a rule: practise at conversation volume. That rule protected your voice while the machinery was being built — and it did its job. Now it gets a promotion: conversation volume stops being a ceiling and becomes your home base — the calm centre you deliberately depart from and return to. Not a licence to shout; a licence to choose.
