"What songs should I sing?" has a boringly practical answer: songs whose notes live where your voice lives. Today we find out exactly where that is, with a ten-minute mapping expedition. It is one of the most useful ten minutes in this course, because every song choice you make from now on depends on it.
What range is (and is not)
One caveat before we measure anything: the map you draw today is a snapshot, not a verdict. Comfortable ranges grow — that is most of what Module 3 is about. Today we are only answering the question "where does my voice live right now?"
A 60-second guide to note names
Piano keys are named with the letters A to G, repeating over and over up the keyboard. To say which repeat we mean, we add a number, counting from the low end: C4 is the C in the middle of a piano (often labelled "middle C" in free piano apps), C3 is the C one set lower, C5 one set higher. That is genuinely all the theory this lesson needs: letters name keys, bigger number means higher.
