What to ask, what to write down, and how to introduce yourself.
The offer letter is signed, Priya has heard the good news, and now it is 8:52 on a Monday morning and Rahul is standing outside the office of Fernandes & Co, feeling something nobody warned him about.
He has forgotten everything he knows.
That feeling is completely normal, and it passes. Here is what the first week is actually for — and what it is not for.
The bar is lower than you think
Nobody expects brilliance in week one. Nobody expects you to produce much at all. Here is the entire real checklist your new colleagues are running:
Do they turn up on time?
Are they pleasant to sit near?
Do they listen more than they talk?
Do they ask sensible questions?
Do they write the answers down?
That is it. You are not being measured on output yet. You are being measured on whether you look like someone worth investing in — and every item on that list is fully within your control on day one.
