The 3-second test, information hierarchy, and print vs screen sizes.
A poster in the wild has the hardest audience in design: people who never agreed to look at it. They're walking past — a bus stop, a corridor, a café noticeboard — and your poster gets roughly three seconds of side-eye to earn a full stop. Everything in this lesson serves those three seconds.
The brief
The plant shop from Module 2 is hosting a beginner repotting workshop: Saturday the 21st, 10 am, at the shop, $5 entry, and everyone takes a plant home. Deliberately ordinary information — because ordinary information handled well is exactly what design is.
Rank before you arrange
Module 1 taught hierarchy as sizes. A poster demands the step that comes before sizing: list every fact, then rank ruthlessly. Only after ranking do the sizes get assigned.
