This sounds like volunteering for pain, so let's start with why every professional does it anyway: you cannot proofread your own design. Fresh eyes see only what is actually there — and what is actually there is all your audience will ever get.

Two kinds of critics, both valuable
1. Normal humans — friends, family, the actual audience. They can't diagnose in rule-language, but their reactions are pure data. The trick is never asking "do you like it?" (which only ever earns a polite "it's nice!"). Ask questions your rules generate:
