Tuesday, 9:15am. You are eleven minutes into the report block you planned on Sunday. Sam appears: "Quick favour — could you put together the numbers for my presentation? Only take you an hour."
Every instinct says yes. Sam is nice. It is only an hour. Saying no feels rude, risky, maybe career-damaging.
Here is the reframe this whole lesson rests on: you are not choosing between yes and no. You are choosing which promise to break. Your week is already full of promises — to Maria about the report, to yourself about the plan, to whoever is waiting on your work. A new yes does not create time; it silently takes time from a promise you already made.
